Newly installed GlobeCast CEO Olivier Barberot has described the last 12 months as a ‘banner year’, highlighting progress in playout services, event coverage, and international content delivery.
The number of channels played out through GlobeCast facilities has increased by 85%. New additions include the launch of Russia Today in Spanish to Europe and the Americas, the expansion of France 24 in North America and Fashion One HD in Asia. A total of 54 channels worldwide now use GlobeCast playout.
Following the integration of subsidiary NETIA, GlobeCast now handles five video-on-demand/catch-up TV channels for Orange TV, across IPTV, mobile and the Web, with over 4,000 pieces of content managed every month. GlobeCast also won the contract to ingest 22,000 hours of tape-based content into a tapeless workflow for Bollywood broadcaster B4U.
Playout centres in London, Paris, Miami, and Singapore were interconnected for the first time and the London facility was upgraded and optimized, increasing the efficiency and capacity of GlobeCast’s playout capabilities.
In sports contribution GlobeCast played a part on delivering several thousands of hours of HD content from the FIFA World Cup, Vancouver Olympics and the Asian Games.
