The Polish public broadcaster TVP has launched its latest thematic channel. Known as TV Seriale, it is likely to be followed by up to three more next year.
According to Wirtualne Media, TVP Seriale is aimed chiefly at a female audience aged 35-49, though its programming, which is 70% Polish, also includes shows targeting men, children and young viewers.
Distributed initially by the DTH platforms Cyfra+ and n, along with 50 cable operators, it is expected to break even within a year, by which time it should claim a 0.5-1% share of the cable and satellite market.
Interestingly, TVP also plans to launch a further service in Q1 2011, also of the same name, that will offer TVP serials on an on demand basis to cable and DTH operators.
TVP Seriale has joined a portfolio of thematic channels consisting of TVP Kultura, TVP Historia, TVP Sport and TVP HD.
They will probably also include three further channels, offering documentaries, movies and kids programming, from next year.
