The number of digital TV homes in the Netherlands grew by 3.4% or 174,300 net additions during the third quarter to 5.26 million on September 3z0, according to Telecompaper’s quarterly update about the Dutch TV market.
Digital TV increased its share of the entire TV market to 65.7%, as the total number of Dutch TV connections increased to 8.01 million at the end of the third quarter. Cable networks are the source for digital TV accounting for 54.8%, followed by satellite DTH with 18.2% (down 0.9%), terrestrial with 17.1% (down 0.5%) and IPTV with 8.4% (up 0.7%) during the third quarter.
FTTH has a market share of 1.4% on the digital TV market. Telecompaper expects the digital TV market to grow to between 5.5 and 5.6 million by the end of this year.
Cable operator Ziggo is still the largest provider on the digital TV market with a share of 32.9%, followed by KPN with almost 22%, UPC with 16.3% and satellite TV platform Canal Digitaal with 15.7%.
