France 24 has signed a new distribution agreement with Asia Sat to commence the distribution of its French channel while it will continue to distribute its English channel throughout the Asia-Pacific region on AsiaSat 5 via the SatLink platform.

Ofcom planning to close 170 posts
UK media regulator Ofcom has announced plans to reduce its staff numbers by one fifth. The 170 jobs will go in response to the coalition government’s Comprehensive Spending Review that requires it to make budget cuts of 30% by 2015.
TalkTalk installs CDN for YouView delivery

Netflix moving in on premium cable services
Netflix’s offer of unlimited access to over 20,000 movies and TV programmes for a monthly $8.99 (€6.40) subscription fee could seriously hurt premium cable services. Recent figures from the US market show that Netflix represents more than 20% of downstream traffic during peak times and is heaviest between 20.00 and 22.00 – television’s prime time.
Astrium to take majority in ND SatCom
SES Astra and Astrium have announced that Astrium will purchase a 75.1% stake in SES Astra’s satellite equipment provider and ground system integrator ND SatCom, based in Friedrichshafen, Germany.

US networks block programmes from Google TV
The three major US networks, ABC, CBS and NBC, are blocking their programmes from access by Google TV, writes The Wall Street Journal. Full-length episodes of shows like NBC’s The Office, CBS’s CSI: Crime Scene Investigation, and ABC’s Modern Family can’t be viewed on the connected TV service.
Euronews to launch in Ukraine
Euronews and National Television Company of Ukraine (NTU), one of its shareholders, will launch a Ukrainian version of the news channel in 2011.
