PIKE CONFERENCE – SOPOT. Although DTT is now up and running in Poland, the final line-up of channels on the first multiplex is still far from decided.
Aside from the public broadcaster’s three main channels, it has space for four more services, and Ewa Gadomska from the National Broadcasting Council (KRRiT) confirmed that several parties have already expressed their interest in securing a space on the multiplex. They include 4Fun Media, TV Puls, TV Trwam and the Polish Chamber of Electronic Communication (PIKE).
Jerzy Straszewski, the latter’s president, said that there are currently around 120 local TV channels in Poland distributed by cable and PIKE has applied for a licence for a channel produced by them.
Significantly, when asked how the estimated PLN100 million (€25.5 million) would be found for such a service, he added that it would have to be financially viable and “we are looking for partners.”
