IP & TV Forum – ISTANBUL. The leading Bulgarian cable operator Blizoo expects to see strong growth in the take-up of HD channels in its offer.
According to its CMO Dimitar Radev, the number of subscribers with HD set-top boxes should rise from 2-3% of the total this September to between 30-40% in September 2010. At the same time, Blizoo will increase the number of HD channels from the current 10 to over 20 and also start to offer 3D.
Radev added that Blizoo, which is backed by the Swedish investment fund EQT V, has over 600,000 RGUs and is also the leading cable operator in Macedonia. Its sales and EBITDA in 2009 amounted to €67 million and €31 million respectively.
He also said that Blizoo’s strategy was to upgrade its existing infrastructure.
Blizoo’s current offer is based on bundles, and though accounting for just under 25% of the cable market its biggest competitor remains the DTH sector, which is now served by three platforms in Bulgaria.
