Spain’s leading cable operator ONO has begun to roll out ultra-fast internet access at speeds of up to 100 Mbps.
Commenting on the development, the company says it has already enjoyed good take-up with its 50 Mbps service. Now covering over 4 million homes, or over 50% of its network, it should become available to all 7 million-plus within the next few months.
ONO adds that it has launched a number of commercial trials of the EuroDOCSIS powered service ahead of the deployment of the 100 Mbps service, starting with one in Alameda de Osuna de Madrid.
ONO ended Q2 this year with 1,356,000 broadband internet subscribers, or 1% more than in the corresponding period in 2009.
Its TV subscriber total was meanwhile 0.4% lower at 966,000 and the number of telephony customers 0.4% higher at 1,682,000.
