The Latvian incumbent telco Lattelecom may shortly face competition in the provision of IPTV services.
DB reports that Kurzemes datocentres, which is based in the city of Ventpils, has allocated LVL300,000 (€356,579) on a research project that could result in the launch of an IPTV service, as part of a triple play offer, in June 2011.
Lattelecom, which is backed by TeliaSonera, currently operates both IPTV and DTT services. The former, which is known as Lattelecom Interactive TV, had 45,000 subscribers as of Q1 this year.
