BBC Future Media & Technology has announced the appointment of Daniel Danker as the general manager, programmes & on demand.
Danker will be responsible for the development of online products and services for the BBC’s programmes, channels and archive including the management of the BBC iPlayer.
“The BBC iPlayer has transformed the way people interact with media in the UK,” he said, adding that we were still at an early stage in the development of the medium. “The BBC is uniquely positioned to drive the next wave of change through its roles in content creation and distribution. We will focus on the innovations that become possible when content production and consumer experience evolve together.”
Danker is the latest Microsoft staff member to join the BBC – former head of the Future Media division Ashley Highfield went in the opposite direction – he helped develop the Microsoft Mediaroom platform and more recently has been working on the company’s music platform.
