Anacom approves Portuguese ASO

Portuguese TV regulator Anacom has given its approval to the country’s analogue switch-off plan. A number of minor adjustments have been made to the three-phase plan that will commence on January 12, 2012, when transmitters and relays for transmitters on the coast of the Portuguese mainland will be turned off.

In the second phase, on March 22, 2012, transmitters and relays covering the autonomous regions of the Azores and Madeira will be shut down.

The third phase on April 26, 2012 will remove the analogue signals from the remainder of the Portuguese mainland.

Following comments by PT Comunicações, the company will be involved in a number of pilot relay tests and early switch-offs that will be announced in due course.
