Dutch cable operators have seen their market share of the digital TV market increased by 0.6% to a total of 54.4% during Q1 2010, according to research by Telecompaper. A total of 61.3% of Dutch homes are now digital.
Satellite DTH platform CanalDigitaal and DTT platform KPN Digitenne saw their shares decreased, while IPTV penetration was up. Digitenne had a market share of 18.0% of the Dutch digital TV market, down 0.7%. Canal Digitaal was the third largest digital TV provider with a share of 16.9%, down 0.9%.
UPC digital was in fourth position with 16.1% and was closing in fast on the DTH platform. Ziggo has the biggest digital platform in the country with a market share of 21.0%. KPN was runner-up with Digitenne and Interactieve TV, good for a total share of 21.0%
IPTV had market share of 7.6% (up 0.9%), with two active providers, KPN Interactieve TV and Tele 2.
In absolute terms, there were 4.9 million digital homes, up 182,900; the total number of TV homes was slightly up – 0.4% – to over 8 million.
