The German VOD portal Maxdome and ISP 1&1 have introduced a hybrid version of their Media Center, which will come in versions with cable, satellite and cable tuners. The set top boxes come free for new 1&1 top tier customers to the 1&1 Entertainment HD-TV service.
The hybrid Maxdome Media Center is a natural extension of the existing box, which makes available to proprietary content of ProSiebenSat1’s Maxdome VOD portal as well as most other web TV offerings including the on-demand catch-up TV servicies from ARD and ZDF.
The Mediacenter HD-TV is equipped with a 160 GB PVR, including the Pause Live TV functionality, has a built-in EPG and can play back locally stored media including music, videos and photos. The box runs on Linux, is manufactured by Winbox AG, and contains a CI slot.
The set-top comes in three varieties: DVB-T for digital terrestrial reception, DVB-C for digital cable and DVB-S for satellite reception. The latter is also equipped with a CI Plus module for reception of the HD+ platform on Astra, which also offers three HD chnanels from ProSiebenSat1.
