From July 1, BBC World News will return to the basic analogue tier on UPC’s Amsterdam cablenet. The news channel will take the place of the Franco-German cultural channel Arte.
The APR, programme council for the greater Amsterdam area, has advised UPC to continue to distribute Arte in its basic analogue tier, but because of contractual obligations with the channel analogue distribution is no longer possible.
Arte and UPC have signed a long-term contract guaranteeing digital distribution of the channel across the network in The Netherlands.
The APR has said BBC World News will take the vacant spot. The UK news channel has not been available in analogue in the Dutch capital for some time. CNN International is still available in analogue basic and Euronews is available in analogue, sharing a channel with Dutch all-talk broadcaster Het Gesprek.
