Russia’s pay-TV market grew by 18% in 2009, with Tricolor ending the year as the leading provider of services.
According to data published by Rumetrika and AKTR, the DTH platform had 4.26 million subscribers and was followed by National Telecommunications and Comstar with 3.3 million and 1.76 million respectively.
In terms of revenues, NTV-Plus generated more revenues than any other pay-TV operation (20%) despite having only 600,000 subscribers, or 3% of the total.
Two new platforms were added to the list in 2009 – Platforma HD and Raduga TV – and as the beginning of this year they had a combined total of 94,000 pay-TV subscribers.
The number of cable TV homes in Russia meanwhile grew by 11% in 2009 and its revenues by 15%.
However, IPTV had an even more successful year, with its subscriber and revenue totals growing by 46% and 75% respectively.
