The Polish incumbent telco Telekomunikacja Polska (TP) ended Q1 with 417,000 TV subscribers, or just over double the 198,000 it had 12 months earlier. Its broadband base meanwhile rose by 6.2% year-on-year to 2,680,000.
Although the group’s revenues in Q1 were, at PLN2,311 million (€596.9 million), 10.5% down on a year earlier, they were a considerable improvement on the last two quarters of 2009. EBITDA meanwhile fell 14.3% year-on-year to PLN1,420 million.
While TP’s IPTV service has begun to pick up after a slow start – it had 111,000 subscribers at the end of Q1 this year – the real driver for growth in the TV sector is the company’s DTH operations.
It had 306,000 customers at the end of Q1, as opposed to 112,000 a year earlier.
