Harmonic has released details of its new Distribution Management System (DMS) that will be on display at NAB 2010 this week.
Combining ProView 7000 receivers and ProStream 1000 stream processors, the DMS is designed for content distribution to operators, affiliates and service providers, as well as distribution for digital terrestrial TV services.
According to Harmonic, DMS can lower operating expenditures and eliminate the need for remote site visits by controlling the video distribution network from a single control system with scheduling, configuration, software upgrade and inventory management capabilities. It also provides support for blackout management and secure broadcast of video content over satellite and IP.
“Our new DMS solution enables content providers, aggregators and service providers to centralize and simplify management of services such as channel entitlements, local programme switching and implementation of regional blackouts,” said Ran Ferster, Product Marketing Manager for Harmonic Inc.
ProView 7000 is the first device to combine a scalable video receiver, DVB descrambler, multi-format decoder, and MPEG stream processor in a single rack unit. The ProStream 1000 platform incorporates bulk scrambling/descrambling, re-encoding, transcoding, statistical multiplexing, forward error correction (FEC), variable to constant bit-rate conversion and single frequency network (SFN) transmission over IP.
