The Latvian incumbent telco Lattelecom says that there has been a huge demand for decoders in Riga following the end of analogue transmissions by the public broadcaster’s first channel LTV1 and the leading commercial station LNT.
The number sold to date by Lattelecom and its partners stands at over 120,000, and when other sales, including TVs with inbuilt receivers are take into account, the figure is between 150,000-160,000.
The DTT pre-pay TV option meanwhile attracted over 6,000 subscribers in its first month of operation and currently has some 43,000.
Separately, Lattelecom says it has already invested LVL10 million (€14.1 million) in its fibre optic network, which reaches 60% of apartments in Riga and over 100,000 homes in major Latvian cities.
It is expected that up to 300,000 homes across the country will have a fibre optic connection by the end of the year.
