The German web TV aggregator and search engine TVBookmark has just launched a US version of its website.
The German website has more than 200,000 indexed web TV videos from more than 400 sources, while the US version is still growing, with just over 15,000 videos from 224 sources. In addition to the main desktop version of TVBookmark, there is a mobile version, as well as a version for use with computer-connected home TVs with bigger font sizes and UI elements, which can be navigated with the arrow keys on a wireless keyboard or a smartphone remote application.
“High quality video content on the web is becoming more and more available, but is still hard to find with algorithm-based video search engines, because their results are often too broad and of a mixed quality,” according to TVBookmark’s Holger Drewes. “We pick sources editorially – mostly from publisher and TV station websites as well as from selected video blogs and channels from video platforms – and combine this handcraft with tailored crawling and indexing algorithms.”
This two-legged approach should guarantee a certain quality level for search results as well as providing nearly real-time results from a variety of sources, which can be especially useful when looking for news-related topics as well as shows or documentaries. Indexed videos can then also be browsed by
topic or different categories like News, Tech & Science or Sports.
TVBookmark was founded in April 2007 with the main goal of making news and other high quality video content on the web more accessible, and has since then grown into one of the largest German web TV websites. The new US version is completely tailored to the US market and can be accessed here.
