Simon Fell has been appointed as the new independent chair of the DTG Technical Council. He replaces Dr Ian Childs who had held the position since the formation of the Technical Council in 2004.
The council is a key part of the DTG, approving the work and publications across all of the DTG’s technical working groups including the D-Book, the detailed technical specification for UK digital terrestrial television.
“With over 30 years of technical experience ranging from roles such as director of technology for ITV Consumer and director of future technologies at ITV to his current position as technology consultant to Freeview, Simon is expertly placed to take an independent lead on Technical Council as the DTG moves in to providing the technical specification for Connected TV and profiling a UK standard for 3DTV,” said DTG director general Richard Lindsay-Davies. He thanked Dr Childs for his work over the last six years.
Fell will take up the role on April 1.
