Spain ended 2009 with 4,424,132 subscribers to pay-TV services, or 3.1% more than a year earlier, according to data published by the regulator CMT.
DTH and cable (1,845,805 and 1,280,006 respectively) together accounted for around 70% of the total, followed by IPTV (798,642), DTT (153,151) and mobile TV (356,528).
Sogecable accounted for the lion’s share (61.6%) of pay-TV revenues totalling €437.63 million in Q4 2009, followed by ONO (13.1%) and Telefónica (10.6%). It also had the highest number of pay-TV subscribers (1,845,805, 45.4%), followed by ONO (975,005, 24.0%), Telefónica (702,990) and GolTV (153,151, 3.8%).
Movistar was the leading provider of mobile TV service in Spain in Q4 2009, with 235,833 subscribers and a market share of 68.1%. It was followed by Vodafone (97,395, 28.1%) and Orange (13,300, 3.8%).
