Deutsche Telekom has outlined its strategy for the next two years in Romania, where through Greece’s OTE it has stakes in Romtelecom and Cosmote.
Quoted in ZF, Guido Kerkhoff, the manager of the company’s operations in South East Europe, said that TV “has huge importance” and is a way of maintaining its customer base.
He also referred to the very aggressive strategy of RCS/RDS, the leading provider of cable and DTH services in Romania (Romtelecom is the second largest provider of DTH services through Dolce and has a presence in the cable market through NextGen), which pays its network technicians on a commission basis to secure more subscribers.
Kerkhoff added that NextGen, which has 130,000 TV and telecom customers, would compete with RCS/RDS, UPC and neighbourhood networks with “the same cost structure and same business model.”
