The take-up of digital TV grew significantly in Hungary in 2009, with 1.141 million homes receiving services supplied by the 14 leading suppliers at year’s end.
According to the National Communications Authority (NHH), the number rose by 23,000 in December alone. The suppliers, adds the NHH, account for around 80-85% of the market.
The NHH has previously estimated that of the 3.8 million TV homes in Hungary, all but 800,000 take some subscription TV service.
In the digital TV sector, UPC was the leading provider of services at the end of 2009 (31.9% market share, down from 32.1% in November), followed by Digi (23.4%, 23.9% in November) and Magyar Telekom’s T-Home (21.5%, 20.8% in November).
