The last phase of the analogue switchover in Spain will begin on March 10 and end on April 3. By means of “an intensive media campaign in the coming days in coordination with Government and local councils”, the 30.2 million people affected will be informed of the end of analogue broadcasts.
Consumer spend boosts Virgin Media
A record customer spend has taken Virgin Media’s monthly cable ARPU to £44.81.
Telenet reaches 1 million digital TV homes
At the end of December 2009, Belgian cable operator Telenet served 1,001,000 digital TV customers, up 49% compared to the previous year. This took the digital penetration rate to 43% of all homes connected.

Abertis integrates Irdeto for DTT platform
Irdeto has announced its full compatibility with Abertis Telecom’s open digital terrestrial TV TDT Premium platform. The move will give Spanish TV operators a choice of downloadable CA systems over the Abertis network.
Liberty rides the storm
Liberty Global ended 2009 on a high note, with Q4 revenues for its UPC Broadband Division being 11.6% up year-on-year at $1,111.3 million (€820.2 million).
Volia sets digital target
Ukraine’s leading cable operator Volia is to start providing TV services solely in the digital format in the western city of Lviv from March 1.
Slovakia awards DTT licences
The Slovak Council for Broadcasting and Retransmission (RTV) has awarded a national DTT licence to the music-based participation channel Mooby TV, which is operated by the Bratislava-based company I-Commerce.
