Turner Broadcasting is to increase the amount of online video content available in Europe after signing a new agreement with Brightcove. The broadcaster intends to expand its advertising supported video offer across its websites with Cartoon Network, Boomerang and Adult Swim first to benefit from the Brightcove package.
Turner is following in the footsteps of ITV, Channel 4, Five, BSkyB, UKTV, STV, Sky Italia and Sky Deutschland. In 2007, UK broadcast customers uploaded an average of around 250 videos per month to the Brightcove service, while today the number is closer to 550 videos per month.
“The Brightcove platform has enabled Turner Broadcasting to introduce a higher quality and more user-friendly online video experience for some of our most popular brands including Ben 10, Chowder and Robot Chicken: Star Wars,” said Caroline Casey, director of digital development, EMEA at Turner Broadcasting. “The flexibility and advanced customization features in the Brightcove platform will be hugely valuable as we look to roll out new video offerings, deepen engagement with our online audiences, and open new revenue streams through online video advertising.”
By using Brightcove, Turner will be able to extend its reach through third party distribution and social media. Turner has also picked up on Brightcove templates to introduce localized video on Cartoon Network in Denmark, Germany, Hungary, Italy, Poland, The Netherlands, Romania Spain and Sweden.
“Turner Broadcasting encompasses a diverse set of Web properties that have tremendous reach and brand recognition throughout Europe,” said Jeremy Allaire, Brightcove chairman and chief executive officer.
Additional websites are slated to launch in the next few months.
