DIGITAL SWITCHOVER STRATEGIES – LONDON. Spain is on track to complete ASO on April 3 this year, according to Ignacio Leon, director of communication, Spanish Office, DTT Switchover. However, he refused to confirm or deny that the process is going so well it might be brought forward by a few days.
According to Leon, over 26 million units of DTT reception equipment have been sold in Spain since January 2005. Furthermore, almost nine out of 10 households now have access to DTT and DTT’s audience share stands at 57.5%, as opposed to analogue’s 20-.2%. In the latter case, this is exactly the reverse of the situation that existed only six months ago.
Significantly, Leon also said that despite the successful rollout of DTT, the market shares for satellite and cable services have remained stable.
