The German sports channel Deutsche Sportfernsehen (DSF) will turn into Sport 1 on April 11, said Constantin Medien , the owners of the channel. The channel promises over 1,150 hours of live sports coverage this year, up 10% from last year.
As reported in Broadband TV News last November, the name was already in the planning stage, but a switchover date had not been set.
With the new name, Constantin Medien is hoping to more closely integrate the channel with its Sport1.de online sports portal. “With a single brand strategy, we can better meet the challenge of the increasing fragmentation of the digital media world and the changing media consumption habits,” said Zeljko Karajica, CEO of DSF and Sport1.
Sport1 also hopes to become a major player in the mobile world with a number of dedicated services including a WAP portal and iPhone apps.

"In an industry that experiences rapid change and often a confusing subsequent
constant supply of news, it is often refreshing to read an insightful perspective. Broadband
