Chello Central Europe’s recently launched Hungarian sports channel Sport M should become available to viewers outside the country by the end of this quarter.
Speaking to Broadband TV News, Balazs Hajós, regional director, affiliate sales and business development, Chello Central Europe, said that the service made its debut on December 10 last year.
Although currently carried by cable networks in Hungary, its Hungarian-only sports content is attracting interest from Hungarian viewers living outside the country, not only in Europe but also further afield in the US and Canada.
Chello Central Europe also operates the channels Sport1, which is available in Hungary, the Czech Republic, Slovakia and Romania, and Sport2, offered in Hungary, the Czech Republic and Slovakia. In total, the two channels are viewed in 7.8 million households in the four countries.
Sport M (M for Magyar) was launched in order to utilise the large catalogue of sports content owned by Chello Central Europe and to meet high demand for Hungarian sports programming outside the country.
The former includes the Hungarian premier football league, to which Chello Central Europe holds exclusive rights.
