The exclusive carriage of the Orange TV channels on the platforms owned by the French telecoms operator is not in the interest of the business and should be abolished, according to a commission headed by Marie-Dominique Hagelsteen.
“The strategy pursued by Orange has many drawbacks, on the short, medium and long term, making its retention not desirable,” the commission wrote in its report.
Last October, the commission was appointed by prime minister François Fillon to investigate the exclusivity of the Orange Sports and Orange movies channels carried on the operator’s IPTV and DTH platforms. Last July, the French competition authority (Autorité de la concurrence) ruled the exclusivity of the channels should be abandoned after a period of one or two years.
