The number of new DTT tuners purchased in Spain, which in recent months have been sold at a rate of 700,000 grew to 956,977 in October.
According to Impulsa TDT, the organisation established to promote DTT in Spain, the cumulative total for tuners sold since the end of 2005 comes in at 23.4 million units. In the first 10 months of 2009, 8.2 million DTT tuners were purchased, representing 25% of the total. Digital terrestrial broadcasts can now be received in 12.3 million homes, some 73.8% of the country. 6.9 million people that have a second home say they have DTT there.
Impulsa says 2009 has been a key year for DTT despite the difficult macro-economic environment. DTT equipment has strengthened its position in the market against falling sales for other electrical appliances.
