Universal Channel will today launch in Turkey on the D-Smart DTH satellite platform.
Colin McLeod, managing director, Central & Eastern Europe, NBC Universal Global Networks described the launch as a big step for the company’s expansion in emerging markets.
The Turkish schedule will include House, Law and Order, Flashpoint, 30 Rock and The Office together with major Hollywood movies. The majority of the content has been dubbed, but McLeod told Broadband TV News that comedy and non-scripted drama would be subtitled as it was felt more appropriate for the content and audience. There will be no advertising for the time being.
McLeod added that NBC Universal was looking at bringing some of the companies other brands to Turkey, such as Syfy channel (the former Sci Fi), where he believed there was significant demand.
