Romtelecom’s new IPTV service Dolce Interactiv is offering HBO HD and Pro TV HD free of charge in order to secure a share of Romania’s potential HD viewership.
According to ZF, there are already some 700,000 HD-compatible sets in the country.
UPC added HD to its offer in the autumn and had already secured 3,000 subscribers by early November. However, RCS/RDS, the country’s leading cable operator, has yet to provide HD channels in its home market despite doing so in neighbouring Hungary.
Romtelecom is expected to start charging for HD channels from April 2010.
