Russia had 13.6 million homes receiving pay-TV as of the end of this June, or 15% more than six months earlier, according to data produced by J’son and Partners Consulting and published by Cableman.
Although the satellite sector grew most rapidly in the first half of this year, with its share increasing from 27% to 31%, cable was still the dominant sector despite seeing its share fall from 70% to 66% over the same period. IPTV, on the other hand, remained unchanged at 3%.
Take-up of pay services remains concentrated, with over half of subscribers located in the central and Volga regions of Russia.
Significantly, the report estimates the value of the pay-TV market in Russia this year to be in the region of $830 million (€552.3 million).
