Slovakia’s first DTT multiplex, which is set to launch by the end of December, is likely to use MPEG-2 compression.
Quoted in Medialne, Richard Flimel, the head of Joj TV, said that the reason for this is the fact that around 20% of households in the country already have LCDs and plasma screens capable of receiving MPEG-2 signals.
Flimel nevertheless expects MPEG-4 to be used for DTT pay-TV services. Slovakia’s DTT service will be operated by Towercom.
