The German broadcaster ProSiebenSat.1 Group has announced it will launch a new women’s channel called Fem TV in the second quarter of 2010. Featuring series such as Gossip Girl, Brothers & Sisters, Ugly Betty and Hope & Faith the channel is a spin-off of the highly popular fem.de portal.
Andreas Bartl, MD German Free TV at ProSiebenSat.1 Media AG, said: “We have explored the print market and found that there are over 100 women’s magazines in Germany. This confirms that the demand is there – and we now want to target women on TV. ”
The broadcaster has appointed Katja Hofem-Best, formerly head of programming at RTL II, to head the new channel.
