Czech IPTV take-up grows

The Czech Republic’s leading IPTV service O2 TV ended Q3 with 136,000 subscribers, or 25.7% more than a year earlier.

Its operator Telefónica O2 Czech Republic also had 651,000 ADSL connections at the end of Q3, a year-on-year increase of 18%.

Net broadband additions in the third quarter amounted to 17,000, or one and a half times more than in Q3 2008.

The incumbent telco’s internet and broadband revenues rose by 19.3% year-on-year to CZK3,660 million (€143.4 million) in the first nine months of 2009 (and by 44.3% in Q3), driven by 21.2% growth in broadband-based services (+46.2% in Q3 2009), including IPTV.

However, its overall financial performance was disappointing, with consolidated business revenues down by 10.6% year-on-year in Q3 alone. Consolidated income was meanwhile down by 1% year-on-year in Q3.
