Telekom bookings hide progress

Deutsche Telekom’s yo-yo numbers for its IPTV service T-Entertain continue to confound. The confusion is caused by the number of bookings the telco has for the service, standing at 885,000 at the end of September 2009, as opposed to the 678,000 that have actually been installed. The figures compare to the 721,000 announced for the June quarter.

At the Ifa electronics show in September, Telekom said T-Entertain was on track to become a mass market service by the end of the year. However, while the desired one million figure may well be reached, it seems unlikely that there will be one million installations.
