Brazil’s state broadcaster TV Brasil plans to launch an international channel targeting Brazilian emigrants, currently totaling approximately 3 million.
The international channel is scheduled to launch in 2010, with Africa being the first continent to receive the broadcasts. At a later stage, North America will also be covered, and satellite and cable distribution is planned.
The news was announced by Tereza Cruvinel, the chairwoman of Brazilian state-owned communications company Empresa Brasil de Comunicação (EBC), during the 2nd Conference of Brazilian Communities Living Abroad in Rio.
TV Brasil Internacional will be in competition with commercial broadcasters such as Globo TV and Rede Record, which already have international versions.
