Russia’s VGTRK has created a special version of its RTR-Planeta aimed solely at the Ukrainian market.
According to Kyiv Post, VGTRK has reassured Ukrainian authorities that the channel does not carry advertising, but if shown in the future will be in accordance with local regulations, which do not permit commercials for alcohol.
The creation of the new channel is a direct response to a demand by the Ukrainian Television and Radio Broadcasting Council, first announced in November 2008, for cable operators to stop carrying Russian TV channels that do not comply with Ukrainian legislation.
