The first performance of the debut album by one of Italy’s rising musical stars has been delivered by satellite to 40 cinemas across Italy.
Alessandra Amoroso won the 2008/09 season of the Canale 5 talent show Amici. Thursday night’s performance of her new album from the Limelight in Milan was delivered to the digital cinemas by Eutelsat, distributing the high definition signals from Atlantic Bird 3 (five degrees East), in partnership with Opensky which specialises in the transmission of digital content via satellite for cinemas and public venues. It is the first time in Italy that a new album has been performed and simultaneously delivered to cinema audiences by satellite.
Eutelsat is actively developing the out-of-home market in collaboration with partners that include Ciel Ecran, Opensky and dbw Communication. Multiple transmissions have been made so far in 2009, notably in France and most recently in Italy during the Venice Film Festival.
Opensky has participated in the digitisation of around 90 cinemas in Italy for the screening of films and special events.
