IBC 2009 – Amsterdam. The BBC’s director for London 2012 Roger Mosey has indicated the possibility of an Olympics both in 3D and Super HD. In the opening session of IBC 2009, Mosey told his audience the whole event would be available in ‘regular HD’.
As the UK rights holder Mosey promised that the corporation’s coverage would push the technological boundaries. “No one would expect the games in 2012 to be comprehensively in 3D but it would be a shame not to have any 3D footage of London in its Olympic state”.
Mosey added that a limited amount of coverage would also be captured in Super HD. “There won’t be a set in your living room by 2012 but there could be a number of public displays that would give a taste of it”.
Declining to put a cost on its ambitions he said the coverage would benefit the creative industries and Britain as a whole.
