Viasat Broadcasting is launching a new version of its hybrid high definition personal video recorder. The Pace TDS855NV combines twin satellite tuners with IPTV functionality to pull in content from the Scandinavian broadcaster’s Viasat OnDemand service.
Pace is a long-term technology provider to Viasat and supplied the satcaster’s first HD PVR in January 2008. It remains the single supplier of PVRs to the company. The new TDS855NV 320GB HD PVR replaces the existing TDS850NV 250GB HD PVR and allows up to an additional 40 hours of content to be stored. In line with current design trends it also has a smaller and more compact design.
Viasat uses progressive download technology developed by NDS. Subscribers are able to download a movie or series through their broadband internet connection for viewing, once enough of the content has been downloaded, or to store for later on.
