Argentina to adopt Japanese TV standard

Argentina has confirmed it will use a variation of the Japanese ISDB system as its digital television standard. The Latin American country will run the Brazilian terrestrial variant of the technology known as ISDB-Tb.

On Friday, August 28, Argentine President Cristina Kirchner signed a memorandum between the Argentine and Japanese governments. She also approved an accord with Brazil on the rollout of the system.

A number of Latin American countries have already signaled their intention to use ISDB in favour of the rival European DVB and American ASTC systems. Peru has adopted ISDB, while Bolivia, Chile, Ecuador, El Salvador, Paraguay and Venezuela are at the experimental stage.
