Processing in the network “cloud” can deliver a uniform experience across CI+ supported TVs, digital cable and IPTV set-top boxes, and broadband connected consumer electronic (CE) devices, according to ActiveVideo Networks.
The San Jose company, which recently acquired the Dutch Avinity Systems, will be using the cloud to demonstrate VOD menuing, rich navigational mosaics, brand-name channels and other services. It uses an ultra-thin client in the set-top box or CI+ module to pass user keystrokes from standard remote controls to servers in the network.
ActiveVideo estimates that its technologies will be in over 5 million homes by the end of the year, in the United States, Europe and Hong Kong.
