Greece’s interior minister Prokopis Pavlopoulos has officially granted a concession to Hellas Sat to launch a direct-to-home satellite service on the Greek market.
The launch of the OTE-backed operation comes 10 years after the launch of MultiChoice Hellas, now owned by the telco Forthnet.
Hellas Sat will use the Hellas Sat 2 satellite at 39 degrees East that is already home to its 750,000-subscriber Romanian service Dolce. The company is also working with the Bulgarian platform Bulsatcom, with who the new service is expected to share high definition content.
Hellas Sat 2 is received in around 2,500,000 households.
