VGTRK has become the first Russian broadcaster to beam its programming to Latin America.
Several reports indicate that it has begun to distribute RTR-Planeta unencrypted across the region using the MexSat-5 satellite.
Its news-based channel Vesti will also become available on the same satellite in the next couple of weeks.
RTR Planeta is already carried by Panama’s Cable Onda, which covers 80% of the country, and cable operators in other countries are showing great interest in VGTRK’s channels.
The broadcaster is next expected to target Brazil, Argentina, the Dominican Republic and Ecuador.
State owned VGTRK operates the national channel Rossiya and thematic services Kultura, Sport and Detski Telekanal, as well as Vesti and RTR Planeta.
