Poland has published a major strategy document on the transition to digital broadcasting.
Prepared by a working group that included the Office of Electronic Communications (UKE), National Broadcasting Council (KRRiT) and Ministry of Infrastructure, its key points include the adoption of MPEG-4 compression and allocation of a DTT multiplex solely for the use of TVP.
Initially, the public broadcaster will share the first multiplex, due to launch this September, with commercial stations.
The strategy document also supports the launch of a ‘Freesat’-style DTH platform by TVP.
Plans for such a platform were announced by the public broadcaster earlier this week.
