The Dutch cable operator Ziggo claims to be “the first in the world” to offer the CI Plus module to its customers. Deliveries are expected to begin this summer, probably at the end of July.
As the country’s largest operator, Ziggo employs a retail model for cable reception. Customers are able to choose from a selection of set-top boxes, including PVRs and interactive models.
Also, a number of customers currently use the so-called Alphacrypt CI module with their Irdeto smart card. However, usage of these CAMs is not supported by the cabler.
With the introduction of the new CI Plus CAMs, viewers will be able to watch the cabler’s channels with any TV set with a cable tuner that supports a CAM slot.
“Ziggo is the first cable operator in the world that supports the CI Plus CAM protocol in cooperation with television manufacturers,” according to a statement.
