Political battle for TVP

TVP WarsawPiotr Farfal, the controversial president of the Polish public broadcaster TVP, has been suspended.

He has been replaced – at least until the move is confirmed – by Slawomir Siwek. Farfal’s suspension by TVP’s Board has the support of the National Broadcasting Council (KRRiT).

However, it is opposed by the State Treasury, the owner of TVP, and a minority of TVP Board members.

It was precipitated by a new member of the TVP Board, who created a majority against Farfal.

It also came against the backdrop of the Treasury Minister trying to dismiss the TVP Board.

Farfal, who will appeal the decision, is not a member of the ruling Civic Platform (PO) party but appears to be favoured by it.

Siwek, on the other hand, is linked to the opposition Law and Justice (PiS) party.
