An extraordinary general assembly of Magyar Telekom has given the go-ahead for the merger of T-Kábel, Hungary’s second largest cable operator, with its parent company.
The move is expected to save the incumbent telco, whose TV interests also include the IPTV service T-Home TV and DTH platform T-Home Sat, up to HUF 1 billion (€3.63 million) a year through improved efficiencies.
Separately, the Hungarian National Communications Council (NHH) has fined Magyar Telekom HUF100 million for imposing excessive penalty charges on subscribers who decide to terminate fixed term landline contract early.
