Microsoft and Canal+ Group have announced a major strategic partnership that will put the French pay-TV operator’s content across Microsoft’s various platforms.
Initially this means that the Xbox 360 will be enabled to receive the Canalplay VOD service and its Foot+ football offer. The one million owners of the Xbox in France will be able access some 6,000 titles, including 3,000 films, through the Zune video marketplace.
Also available to Canal+ subscribers that have signed up to Xbox Live are Canal’s popular shows Le Grand Journal, +Clair, Dimanche+, and Le Zapping. Coverage of top flight English, Spanish, German and Italian football is also available, in addition to access from the French Ligue 1 and Champions League.
Members will in addition be able to use the Xbox social networking features to comment on the coverage.
In May Sky confirmed that agreement was in place to offer a similar service in the UK market.
